Proofpoint Staff Software Engineer in Draper, Utah

As a Staff software engineer on the Tenant Connectors team, you will be focused on the back-end systems that power our industry leading products focused on integrating via API with external mail providers. You will be responsible for designing and developing new features as well as fixing bugs within our back-end infrastructure. You will also be influencing the technical direction of our products you grow into our team and become a core contributor.

Your day-to-day

• Designing additions to our technology stack

• Developing new features as we add to our industry-leading solutions.

• Investigating issues and developing fixes where appropriate.

• Working within the engineering team as a whole to understand our system and help build for scale.

• Learning new APIs and integrating new data sources into our product suite

What you bring to the team

When it comes to hiring, we value attitude and aptitude over number of years of experience with any specific tool or technology. We assume you know how to code; we’re much more interested in how you design and deliver.

Having said that, we are generally looking for the following skills and experience:

• At least 7 years of demonstrated experience delivering code into production cloud applications in a team environment

• Production experience with at least one interpreted language like Ruby, Perl, PHP or Python and at least one strongly typed language like Java or Golang

• Solid understanding of the architecture of database-backed web applications, including web process architectures, threading, ORMs

• An innate desire to work on difficult problems and learn new systems

• Basic understanding of system administration in a Linux, Apache, MySQL environment

• Solid understanding of MySQL and relational databases

• Exposure to the basics of Enterprise-class product development: comfort with process and tools including bug tracking, IDE’s, compilers, debuggers, profilers, version control systems, code coverage tools, automated testing tools, usability

• Intrinsic motivation: you fix things because they are broken and need fixing

• AWS or similar cloud infrastructure experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets as set out below. Pay within these ranges varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. The range provided may represent a candidate range and may not reflect the full range for an individual tenured employee. This role may be eligible for variable pay and/or equity. We offer a competitive benefits package that includes flexible time off, a robust well-being program that provides for 4 global wellbeing days per year, and a 3-week work from anywhere option.

Base Pay Ranges:

SF Bay Area, New York City Metro Area:

Base Pay Range: 189,750.00 - 278,300.00 USD

California (excludes SF Bay Area), Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Washington DC Metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Texas, Washington, Virginia, and Alaska:

Base Pay Range: 158,400.00 - 232,320.00 USD

All other cities and states excluding those listed above:

Base Pay Range: 144,825.00 - 212,410.00 USD
